Does the detector work separately if the Z-Wave controller is offline for some reason?
Yes. It can work like a conventional battery operated smoke detector. In fact, it doesn't need to be added to a Z-Wave controller. It can simply detect smoke and signal an alarm with its built-in siren. Of course, if you add it to a Z-Wave controller, you'll find a wide range of possibilities.
